Basic Principles of the NEWSTART Complete Health Program

The Basic Principles of the NEWSTART Complete Health Program consists of an easy to remember eight letter acronym. Eight easy steps to help you experience complete health by living by God’s blueprint.

Nutrition

  • Proper Nutrition is crucial. Regulating the diet is a must.
  • Do not eat white products, oil, MSG, aspartame, additives, preservatives, food coloring, vinegar, spices, or condiments.
  • Don’t use baking soda, baking powder, black, white, or cayenne pepper, and all hot peppers like jalapenos and habanero.
  • Do not use Tapatio, Tabasco, Crystal or any ‘HOT’ stuff.
  • Eliminate fermented or under ripe food.
  • Eat 2-3 meals a day, fruit and grain for 3rd meal if you eat one.
  • Don’t eat between meals.
  • Wait at least 5-6 hours from when you finished your last meal to the start of the next meal.
  • For the 1st meal
    1. Eat 3 fruit (fresh is best).
    2. Eat Nuts (only ¼ cup) and seeds (2 T.).
    3. ½ – 1 c. Grain (brown rice, quinoa, non-GMO corn, barley, millet, oats, rye, kamut, wheat, barley, buckwheat, amaranth, etc.) this can include your healthy bread for the day.
  1. For the 2nd meal
    1. Cooked orange or green vegetables.
    2. Salad (using romaine, butter leaf, green leaf, red leaf, endive, arugula, etc.) with cooked beets, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, etc. No tomatoes as they are really a fruit.
    3. ½ – 1 c. grain (brown rice, quinoa, non-GMO corn, barley, millet, oats, rye, kamut, wheat, barley, buckwheat, amaranth, etc.).
    4. ½ – 1 cup legume of some type, which includes beans or peas.
  • For the 3rd meal
    1. Only 1-2 pieces of fruit and some type of grain, such as popcorn, whole grain rice, granola, etc.
  • Read the book How to Live. How to live teaches us how to prepare wonderful vegetable dishes that are easy to make.

  • One reason so many give up on healthful eating is because they do not know how to cook simple tasty meals (see CD 255.1) (Ellen White, Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 255, paragraph 1). (see How to live pages 23-25,28-30,31-33).

Exercise

  • Walk outdoors every day (early morning hours preferred but work with what you can).
    1. Work your way up to a minimum of 60 minutes each day.
    2. You may use a treadmill on days that are wet and rainy.
    3. You may use a rebounder (mini trampoline) on days that are wet and rainy as well.
    4. Read the complete document on exercise (Available soon).
  • Do some form of gardening every day.
    1. Start slowly by planting strawberry seeds or flowers.
    2. You can work up to raking, removing rocks, turning over, and maybe even chopping wood.

Water

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Drink the amount of water shown by the calculation below each day.
  • Sip, don’t gulp your water (drink the amount of water shown in the calculation below each hour).

WATER CALCULATION FORMULA

Most people believe they drink enough water. Unfortunately, they don’t. As a result, approximately 85-90% of people become dehydrated. You also must drink water properly. That’s right! There’s a right way and a wrong way to drink water. To ensure that people are not only getting enough water, but that they are drinking it the correct way, do the following:

AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH WATER A PERSON IS TO DRINK

Criteria

  • A woman who weighs 200 lbs., but should weigh 124 lbs.
  • She wakes up at 6 am and goes to bed at 10 pm.

NOTE: Page 169 of HEALTH POWER shows the weight chart. Everyone should have this book.

Health Power Health by Choice not Chance by Aileen Ludington and Hans Diehl.

If you don’t have this book, you can use one of the many online weight calculators, just know that the numbers might be slightly different.

STEPS TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH WATER TO DRINK A DAY

1. Divide 124 (the weight she should be) by 2 = 62.

2. Subtract 124 from 200 (the weight she is) = 76.

3. Take the difference of the two weights (76) and divide that by 4 = 19.

4. Now you add the 62 and 19 = 81. This would be your total ounces for the day.

5. Don’t forget she should drink 16 oz of warm lemon water from 6 am to 7 am (This is not part of her 81oz.). See lemon water post.

6. From 7 am to 9 pm = 14 hours. Divide your total 81 oz by 14 (the number of hours for the day) which = (5.78 rounded off to 6 oz). She would drink 6 oz every hour or a little less (6 oz = 3/4 of a measuring cup).

7. Have her measure out the 6 oz. of water and pour into a water bottle, then mark the line level with a sharpie so she will know to fill up to this line every hour.

HAVE HER SET A TIMER FOR EVERY HOUR.

NOTE: We have people stop their water intake 1 hour before bed and 1 hour after they wake up. They have to drink their initial 16 oz of lemon water the first hour and we don’t want to wake up to use the bathroom after we go to bed.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE DIVIDING 14 HOURS AND NOT 16 HOURS

NOTE: By drinking water this way, you are not only getting enough of it; you are also drinking it properly. Most people wait a couple of hours before they even take their first drink of water for the day. This causes dehydration. Also, when they drink, they gulp their water instead of sipping it, which causes the water to pass quickly through their body, still leaving them dehydrated. By drinking the water every hour, you are helping your body to absorb and store the water instead of helping flush it out.

Sunshine

  • Get Sunshine every day even in the winter months and even when it’s overcast or very gloomy.
  • Start with 10 minutes every day and add a minute each day until you are getting at least 30 minutes of sunshine at a minimum.
  • Work your way up to getting all that you can (read CD 302.3) (Ellen White, Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 302, paragraph 3).
  • Let the sunshine in every room of your house as much as possible.
  • Watch the following video on sunshine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xvbT1UStoM.
  • Get all the sunshine through the day that you can possibly get.
  • At least an hour a day before noon is best, but do what you can if your job limits you from doing it before 12pm.
  • Darker-skinned people need more sunshine than fairer skinned persons because of the melanin in their skin.
  • Stay covered with thin cotton material to stay protected from skin cancer.
  • Do not wear sun screen as it has cancer-causing ingredients as well as preventing the skin from making Vitamin D from the sun.
  • Do not wear eye or sunglasses, so you can let the UV rays enter through the eye to help with the hormonal system.

Temperance

“…True temperance teaches us to dispense entirely with everything hurtful, and to use judiciously that which is healthful…” (Te 138.2) (Ellen White, Temperance, page 138, paragraph 2).

In other words using good things in moderation and abstaining from that which is harmful.  Choosing good things moderately and avoiding the bad is not always easy to practice, but can be attained.

God promises us that “And every man that striveth for the mastery is TEMPERATE IN ALL THINGS…” (1 Corinthians 9:25).

Air

  • Get all the fresh air you can every day.
  • Do deep breathing exercises every day (see below).
  • Keep windows in house open, especially bedroom windows.
  • In the winter, keep your windows cracked at least a hair breadth. Do not keep temperature above 65 degrees in winter months (See 1T 702.3) (Ellen White, Testimonies for the Church Vol. 1, page 702, paragraph 3).
  • Open your windows all day and night to let the fresh air (negative ions) kill the harmful air in your home.
  • Sit, stand, and pray in an upright position to facilitate proper breathing.

Deep breathing exercises (5 sets / 2 x day).

  1. Breathe in slowly through the nose. It should take 3-5 seconds to completely fill your lungs with air.
  2. Hold for 10 seconds.
  3. Exhale slowly through your mouth. It should take 3-5 seconds to completely empty your lungs.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 5 times in the morning and 5 times in the evening.
  5. Be sure that when you inhale through your nose, your stomach expands as well as your lungs. Most adults breathe improperly.

Rest

  • Get all the proper rest you can every day.
  • Be in bed with all lights out by 9:00 pm. 9:30 pm for those who are students (children 12 – adults).
  • Do not sleep with TV, electronics, or any lights on.
  • Sleep at least 6-8 hours each night.
  • You may drink an herbal tea (catnip, peppermint, tilo (aka linden leaves); valerian, etc.) for sleep

WARNING: Valerian has the opposite effect on 10% of people and will keep them awake; try this as a last option if other herbs don’t work.

  • You may take a warm bath for about 20 minutes to induce sleep.

Trust In God

  • Read the bible every day as well as the spirit of prophecy.
  • Read a Proverb every day. One chapter of proverbs each day of the month (1st = chapter 1; 2nd = chapter 2; and so on). If it’s the 3rd of the month, read chapter 3. If it’s the 4th of the month, read chapter 4, etc.
  • Get a ‘God’s Book of Bible Promises’ and look those up every day.
  • Read the King James (KJV) Bible every day.

Why KJV Bible? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15sKUdkfNFM

  • Pray every morning, noon (we prefer 1pm), and evening.

It doesn’t have to be long. You can just recite the Lord’s prayer or list what you are thankful for and your prayer requests for others and yourself. Gradually work up to longer, more structured prayers.

  • Trust what the Lord tells you and don’t worry (Matthew 6:31-34)
  •  Read the Amazing Facts Bible Study guides. They are fantastic. Re-read them for more practice and memorization.
