The Water Principle of the NEWSTART Complete Health Program

The ‘W’ in the NEWSTART Complete Health Program stands for the Water Principle. Water is nature’s #1 natural source for quenching thirst.  Humans, animals, and plant life alike could only live a couple of days without it, yet on a daily basis, most Americans are very deficient. Approximately 85-90% of people do not get enough water, resulting in many of the common ailments of today.  Most of these ailments can be helped simply by increasing the amount of water a person takes in each day, as well as drinking the proper type of water. If your lips are dry and/or your urine has a yellowish or darker color, these are two signs that you are already extremely dehydrated.  The color should be clear or pale.

Facts about Water and the Water Principle

Did you know that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated?  The human body is up to 80% water.

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger. Even mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.  One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters as shown in a University of Washington study.  Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.  Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.  A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.  Drinking five glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

What kind of water is needed in the Water Principle?

“…if those who are afflicted would assist nature in her efforts by the USE OF PURE, SOFT WATER, much suffering would be prevented…” {CH 61.2} (Ellen White, Counsels on Health , page 61, paragraph 2).

You should drink pure, soft water. Most homes will need some sort of filter system to have truly soft water. We use a 15-stage filter on our shower heads and a water filter pitcher and a larger filtering countertop unit for out drinking water. We have just installed a house wide water filter that we made ourselves with parts from Amazon. It is basically a debris filter followed by a charcoal filter right as the water enters our house. You can also by a ready-made filter system.

God really does want us to be in good health.  He gave us so many wonderful good foods to eat and in so many pretty colors.  Remember to eat like a rainbow so you are getting all the nutrition your body needs.

Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss — shrinking cells are buoyed by water which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy, and resilient.

Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has a lot more waste to get rid of. All that metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste.

Water can help relieve constipation. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source the body takes water from, resulting in constipation. When a person drinks enough water, normal bowel function usually returns quickly. During the hot weather we need to be sure and drink plenty of water.

WATER CALCULATION FORMULA

Most people believe they drink enough water. Unfortunately, they don’t. And as a result, approximately 85-90% of people are dehydrated. They either do not drink enough water or they are not drinking it properly. That’s right!!! There’s a Right way and a Wrong way of drinking water. Therefore, to ensure that people are not only getting enough water, but that they are drinking it the right way, the following WATER CALCULATION FORMULA has been provided.

HOW TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH WATER A PERSON IS TO DRINK

Example: A woman who weighs 200 lbs., but should weigh 124 lbs. She wakes up at 6 am and goes to bed at 10 pm.

STEPS ON HOW TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH WATER TO DRINK A DAY

  1. Divide 124 lbs. (the weight she should be) by 2 which = 62
  2. Subtract 124 from 200 (the weight she is) the difference = 76
  3. Take the 76(the difference of the two weights) and divide that by 4 which = 19
  4. Now you add the 62 and 19 which = 81.  This would be your total ounces for the day
  5. Don’t forget she should be drinking 16 oz from 6am to 7am, which is not a part of her 81 oz.
  6. From 7 am to 9 pm = 14 hours.  Divide your total 81 oz by 14(the number of hours for the day) which = 5.78, which could be rounded off to 6 oz. She would drink 6 oz every hour or a little less 6 oz = 3/4 of a measuring cup.
  7. Have her fill this up, pour into a water bottle, and then mark the line level with a sharpie so she will know to fill up to this line every hour.  HAVE HER SET A TIMER FOR EVERY HOUR. 

NOTE: We have people stop their water intake 1 hour before bed and 1 hour after they wake up, because they have to drink their initial 16 oz of water the first hour. This is why we are dividing 14 hours and not 16 hours.

By drinking water this way, you are not only getting enough of it, you are also drinking it properly. Most people wait a couple of hours before they even take their first drink of water for the day. This causes dehydration. Therefore, when they drink, they gulp their water instead of sipping it, which in turn causes the water to run right through them, still leaving them dehydrated. By drinking the water every hour, you are helping your body to absorb and store the water instead of helping it to be flushed out.

In health and in sickness, pure water is one of Heaven’s choicest blessings. Its proper use promotes health. It is the beverage which God provided to quench the thirst of animals and man. Drunk freely, it helps to supply the necessities of the system, and assists nature to resist disease. {MH 237.1} (Ellen White, Ministry of Healing, page 237, paragraph 1).

Pure air and water, cleanliness, a proper diet, purity of life, and a firm trust in God, are remedies for the want of which thousands are dying; yet these remedies are going out of date because their skillful use requires work that the people do not appreciate. Fresh air, exercise, pure water, and clean, sweet premises, are within the reach of all, with but little expense; but drugs are expensive, both in the outlay of means, and the effect produced upon the system. {5T 443.1} (Ellen White, Testimonies for the Church Volume 5, page 443, paragraph 1).

Many make a mistake in drinking cold water with their meals. Food should not be washed down. Taken with meals, water diminishes the flow of the saliva; and the colder the water, the greater the injury to the stomach. Ice water or ice lemonade, taken with meals, will arrest digestion until the system has imparted sufficient warmth to the stomach to enable it to take up its work again…  {CH 119.2} (Ellen White, Counsels on Health , page 119, paragraph 2).
